I stared at it. It stared at me.
Everyone's kind comments were very appreciated. The rug idea played over and over. But then I realized Miss Kitty would take the rug out. Maybe use the rug to make a diaper for Elmo. This would not be a long term solution.
I cracked out the saw and the Dremel. Done!
Lesson: make sure your wood grain is running in the same direction.
